My Package Flight Times Look Wrong. How Do I Fix Them?

Updated

7 min read

First, figure out which problem you actually have

Wrong looking flight times on a package come from three different causes, and each has a different fix. One, an airline schedule change: the airline moved the flight after you booked and the package confirmation shows the old times or the new ones you did not expect. Two, a display issue: times are shown in the local time of each airport, so an itinerary can look shorter or longer than it is. Three, a genuine booking error: the package was built with a flight you never picked.

Schedule changes are by far the most common. Airlines adjust schedules months out, and Delta, for example, notifies affected customers by email and updates the reservation in its app automatically.

Verify against the airline's own record

  • check_circleFind the airline confirmation code on your package confirmation or eDocuments. It is a 6 character code, separate from the package booking number.
  • check_circleEnter it in the airline's app or website under trip lookup. This shows the flight as the airline has it right now.
  • check_circleCheck that an e-ticket number is attached to each traveler. A reservation can be confirmed but not yet ticketed, and only a ticket number means the airline will fly you.
  • check_circleCompare the airline's times against the package confirmation. If they match and still look odd, re-check time zones and overnight arrivals marked as next day.
  • check_circleDo the same for the hotel: call the property directly with the hotel confirmation number and confirm your dates and room type match.
Tip:Delta Vacations customers can pull eDocuments in the Fly Delta app or My Trips. Checking both halves, airline record and hotel record, within a day or two of booking catches mismatches while they are still easy to fix.

Who owns the fix

The operator owns your ticket. Airlines route package customers back to whoever sold the trip, Delta's schedule change page tells third party and tour customers to contact their agent, and sends Delta Vacations customers to the Delta Vacations line. Calling the airline first usually costs you a hold time just to be redirected.

Wrong flight times, who to contact

When a schedule change earns you a refund

US airlines now treat large schedule changes as significant. Delta defines significant as departure or arrival moving 3 or more hours on domestic flights or 6 or more hours on international ones, and also counts missed connections, airport changes, added connections, and cabin downgrades. For significant changes, Delta issues automatic refunds if you take no action, and package operators mirror this: Delta Vacations pairs qualifying flight changes with flexibility to cancel the rest of the vacation package.

That matters because a package is one purchase. If the airline guts your flight times, ask the operator what happens to the hotel nights too, not just the flight. A qualifying change is often your one free exit from the whole package.

The call, step by step

  • check_circleHave ready: package booking number, airline confirmation code, and the original times from your confirmation email.
  • check_circleState the gap plainly: booked 10:15 am departure, airline now shows 4:40 pm.
  • check_circleAsk whether the change is classified as significant under the airline's policy.
  • check_circleIf yes, ask for alternate flights first. You can usually pick from available options rather than accepting the auto rebooking.
  • check_circleIf no alternative works, ask what refund applies to the flight portion and what happens to the hotel and any add-ons.
  • check_circleGet the outcome in writing before hanging up, a new confirmation email or case number.

Common questions

The airline changed my flight but my package confirmation still shows old times. Which is right?expand_more

The airline's record is the live one. Package confirmations are snapshots and can lag. Use the airline confirmation code in the airline's app for current times, then call the operator to sync the package.

Can I call the airline directly to change a package flight?expand_more

Generally no. Airlines direct package and third party customers back to the seller of the trip because the operator controls the ticket. The exception is day of travel disruption at the airport, when airline staff handle rebooking on the spot.

How do I know my package flight is actually ticketed?expand_more

Look up the airline confirmation code in the airline's app and check that an e-ticket number appears for each traveler. Confirmed means the seats are reserved, ticketed means they are paid and issued. If no ticket number shows within a day or two, call your operator.

What counts as a significant schedule change?expand_more

Delta's published thresholds are 3 or more hours for domestic flights and 6 or more hours for international, plus broken connections, airport changes, and cabin downgrades. Other airlines use similar rules, check the operating airline's schedule change page.

If the flight change qualifies for a refund, do I lose the hotel money?expand_more

Not necessarily. Operators typically extend cancellation flexibility to the rest of the package when a qualifying flight change happens. Ask the operator explicitly what happens to each component before accepting anything.
