Can you combine multiple Spirit flight credits?
Updated
5 min readHow combining worked, and mostly did not, before the shutdown
Spirit's payment page accepted a credit through one Reservation Credit box, entered via the Redeem a gift card or credit link. Published walkthroughs describe entering a single code and paying any difference with a card, which is why travelers holding several credits from different canceled trips struggled to stack them on one reservation.
Two other rules made stacking costly even when agents helped. Credits were single use, so any credit worth more than its share of the trip forfeited the remainder. And each credit was tied to the passenger from its original booking, so credits issued to different family members could not simply pool onto one person's ticket.
What multiple credits mean after May 2, 2026
With the airline in wind down, all of your credits are in the same position: unredeemable balances owed to you by a company in bankruptcy. Spirit said compensation for credits, vouchers, and points would be determined through the court process, and case reporting is frank that guests are near the back of the creditor line.
The good news is that combining is finally simple. You do not file one claim per credit with separate processes. You file your claim and document every credit you hold.
How to organize several credits into one clean claim
- check_circleList each credit in a simple table of your own: code, dollar amount, issue date, the canceled trip it came from, and the passenger it was issued to.
- check_circleAttach the issuing email for each credit. Search your inbox for reservation credit and for each old confirmation code.
- check_circleMatch each credit to a card statement where possible, proving real money behind the balance.
- check_circleFile the proof of claim through Epiq, Spirit's claims agent, starting at spiritrestructuring.com or dm.epiq11.com, and check the posted deadline.
- check_circleIf credits were issued to different family members, check the claim instructions for whether each person files individually. When in doubt, file per passenger and keep the documentation separated the same way.
Common situations with multiple credits
What to do with each credit scenario now
| Scenario | What it meant before | What to do now |
|---|---|---|
| Two credits, same passenger | Usually two separate bookings to use both | One claim listing both codes |
| Credits for different family members | Each locked to its own passenger | Document per person; follow Epiq instructions on who files |
| Credit plus a goodwill voucher | Different rules and codes | List both, labeled clearly, with issuing emails |
| Credit partially used before shutdown | Remainder forfeited under single use | Claim the documented unused value and explain the math |
| Credit from an agency booking | Held by the agency, not Spirit | Pursue the agency and your card issuer instead |
Common questions
Could Spirit agents merge credits by phone before the shutdown?expand_more
Travelers reported mixed results, and there was no published merge feature. The self service checkout took one code per booking. Either way, no merge channel exists now.
Do I file one bankruptcy claim or one per credit?expand_more
One claim per claimant that lists every credit is the clean approach. Follow the instructions on the Epiq claim form, and keep each credit's email attached as its own exhibit.
My spouse and I each held credits. Can I claim both?expand_more
Credits were issued per passenger, so check the claim form guidance. The safe route is each person filing for their own credits under the name on their reservation.
Is there any marketplace to sell or pool unused Spirit credits?expand_more
No legitimate one. Credits were non-transferable when Spirit flew and have no redemption value now. Treat anyone offering to buy or combine them as a scam.
What are my combined credits actually likely to pay out?expand_more
Unknown and possibly nothing. Guests are unsecured creditors, and reporting on the case says recovery is unlikely and slow if it comes. Filing is still worthwhile because it is free and preserves your place in line.
