Which Amex Cards Qualify for Fine Hotels + Resorts?
Updated
6 min readThe eligibility list
The rule of thumb: if the card is a true Platinum or Centurion product, FHR works, including for additional card members on the account. Cobranded cards that borrow the word Platinum, like Delta SkyMiles Platinum, do not qualify.
FHR access by card, U.S. issued
| Card | Can book FHR? | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| The Platinum Card (consumer) | Yes | Also gets up to $600 per year in hotel statement credits on prepaid bookings |
| Business Platinum Card | Yes | Same statement credit structure as consumer Platinum |
| Corporate Platinum Card | Yes | FHR benefits, statement credit terms differ from consumer cards |
| Centurion Card | Yes | Full access |
| Additional Platinum cards on the above accounts | Yes | Authorized user Platinum cards count |
| Delta SkyMiles Platinum | No | Similar name, different product, no FHR access |
| Companion Platinum cards | No | Excluded by the program terms |
| Additional Business Gold and Expense cards | No | Excluded by the program terms |
| Amex Gold, Business Gold, Green | No | Get The Hotel Collection instead |
The name-trap cards
The most common eligibility surprise is the Delta SkyMiles Platinum card. It is a Delta cobrand that shares nothing with the Platinum Card's travel program, and Amex's terms exclude it from FHR explicitly. Companion cards and additional Business Gold or Expense cards on Platinum accounts are also excluded, even though they sit on an eligible account.
What Gold and Green members get instead
The Hotel Collection is open to Platinum, Business Platinum, Gold, Business Gold, and Green card members. It covers upscale hotels with a $100 credit toward eligible charges, room upgrade upon arrival when available, noon check-in when available, and late checkout when available. It requires a two-night minimum stay, includes no breakfast, and Amex pegs its average total value at $150 for a two-night stay versus $550 for FHR.

- check_circlePrepaid bookings paid with the Platinum card also earn 5 Membership Rewards points per dollar.
International card members
FHR exists for Platinum and Centurion members in other countries, but benefit details, statement credits, and booking sites vary by market. The card list above and the credit amounts describe U.S. issued cards booking through the U.S. Amex Travel site. If your card was issued elsewhere, check your local Amex travel portal's FHR terms.
Common questions
Does an authorized user Platinum card get FHR benefits?expand_more
Yes. Additional Platinum cards on consumer, business, and corporate Platinum or Centurion accounts can book FHR with full benefits.
Can I book FHR with my Gold card if I pay extra?expand_more
No. There is no paid upgrade path into FHR. Gold, Business Gold, and Green members use The Hotel Collection, which has a two-night minimum and no breakfast benefit.
Does the Platinum card member have to pay with that exact card?expand_more
Book through Amex Travel while logged in with the eligible card. To capture the statement credit and the 5 points per dollar, the prepaid booking should be charged to the eligible Platinum card.
Why does my Delta Platinum card not show FHR rates?expand_more
Delta SkyMiles Platinum is a cobranded card, not part of the Platinum Card family, and Amex excludes it from FHR. You would need a Platinum, Business Platinum, Corporate Platinum, or Centurion card.
Is FHR worth getting a Platinum card for?expand_more
If you take even two or three luxury hotel stays per year, FHR perks plus the up to $600 annual hotel credit can offset a large slice of the annual fee. Run your own numbers against the fee before applying.
