How to Check If a Hotel Is in Amex Fine Hotels + Resorts
Updated
5 min readThe three reliable places to check
Log in first. Amex Travel personalizes what you see, and FHR rates with the full benefit description only display for eligible card members.
- check_circleAmex Travel search: log in at amextravel.com with your Platinum or Centurion card, search the city or hotel name, and filter or look for the Fine Hotels + Resorts label on results.
- check_circleThe FHR landing page at americanexpress.com/en-us/travel/fine-hotels-and-resorts, which explains the program and routes you into the participating hotel search.
- check_circleAmex's featured luxury hotel offers pages, which list FHR and The Hotel Collection properties with current special offers by destination.
How to recognize a real FHR rate
Participation is necessary but not sufficient: an FHR hotel can also show regular rates on Amex Travel. On the booking screen, a genuine FHR rate is labeled Fine Hotels + Resorts and itemizes the benefits: daily breakfast for two, $100 credit toward eligible charges, room upgrade and noon check-in when available, guaranteed 4pm checkout, and Wi-Fi.
If you pick a different rate at the same hotel, even through Amex Travel, none of those benefits attach. The label on the rate you select is what counts, not the hotel's membership in the program.
Do not confuse FHR with The Hotel Collection
Amex Travel shows both programs side by side, and the badges look similar at a glance. The Hotel Collection is the mid-tier sibling: $100 credit and upgrade when available, but no breakfast, no guaranteed 4pm checkout, and a two-night minimum. If breakfast and late checkout are part of your math, verify the badge says Fine Hotels + Resorts specifically.
If your hotel is not on the list
The FHR list is curated, roughly 1,800 hotels, and many excellent properties are not on it. Check The Hotel Collection next if you hold any eligible Amex card. If you have a Sapphire Reserve, check Chase's The Edit list. And almost every true luxury property participates in Virtuoso or its chain's advisor program, like Hyatt Prive or Marriott STARS, which deliver a similar package through a travel advisor with no card requirement.
Hotels also join and leave FHR over time, so recheck close to booking rather than trusting an old blog list.
Common questions
Can I see FHR hotels without a Platinum card?expand_more
You can browse the public FHR marketing pages, but rates with attached benefits require logging in with an eligible Platinum or Centurion card. Gold and Green card members will see The Hotel Collection instead.
Is there an official printable list of all FHR hotels?expand_more
Amex does not publish a single static list. The live search on amextravel.com and the FHR destination pages are the source of truth, and they change as hotels join and leave.
The hotel's own website mentions Amex FHR. Can I book direct and get the perks?expand_more
No. FHR benefits attach only to FHR rates booked through Amex Travel. A direct booking at a participating hotel gets you nothing from the program.
Why do I see two different Amex rates for the same room?expand_more
Amex Travel can show a regular rate and an FHR rate side by side, sometimes at different prices. Only the one labeled Fine Hotels + Resorts includes the benefits, so compare the price gap against the perk value.
Do all FHR hotels appear in every country version of Amex Travel?expand_more
The program is global with more than 1,800 properties, but eligibility rules and site experience differ by card-issuing country. This guide describes the U.S. program on amextravel.com.
